How it all started
In January 1988 I arrived home after four years in America. The cupboard was empty; there were no vegetables in the garden, I was alone, broke, had no job and a huge mortgage. I had to find work and look up old friends, many of whom I had lost touch with.
One weekend Sally turned up on the doorstep. She carried a large basket. In the basket was a delicious beef casserole, a bottle of red wine, and I seem to remember some sausages and a few other foods to die for. My daughters still talk today about Sally standing on our doorstep with her basket of goodies!
It was my first experience of ‘girls who lunch’ and marked the start of a new life with old friends who kept me sane, ate with me and made me laugh.
Not much has changed!
